Eadar-Chluich (Interlude): Episode 5

Dh'Eirch na Deņir (The Tears Welled)

The BAFTA nominated film is number five in the series. “Dh’Eirch na Deòir” (“The Tears Welled”) is based on the much-loved aria “Una Furtiva Lacrima” from the Donizetti opera “The Elixir of Love”. The intriguing Gaelic version was recorded in the 1970s by the late Lewis singer Finlay MacNeill, with co-operation from highly respected broadcaster and classical music authority, Bill Innes. Piano accompaniment was played by the late Lawrence Glover. “Dh’Eirich na Deòir” stars veteran Scots actor Iain Glen and was directed by top Irish film-maker Aisling Walsh (“Song For A Raggy Boy”, “The Daisy Chain”, “Wallander”).  The combination of Finlay’s wonderful, haunting rendition coupled with Iain Glen’s mesmerising portrayal of a homeless, deluded alcoholic delivered a powerful set piece, filmed in the Partick area of Glasgow in the New Year of 2009. Filmed by Simon Kossoff BSC and edited by Angela Slaven (STV Solutions),“Dh’Eirich na Deòir”is a groundbreaking product for Gaelic television. Sorbier is delighted and very proud to have our work recognised by BAFTA Scotland. We congratulate the winner in the TV Drama Category, “New Town” from Pirate Productions.
