Eadar-Chluic ("Interlude")
In 2009, Sorbier was nominated in the BAFTA Scotland Television Drama category for the fifth programme in our “Eadar-Chluich” (“Interlude”) strand for BBC ALBA. This exciting series of short, non-dialogue dramas based on individual Gaelic songs, was commissioned in 2007 by the then “Gaelic Media Service”. Development continued as the Gaelic channel was being established. Six very diverse “song dramas” were eventually produced one by one, and broadcast on BBC ALBA in 2009.
Popular broadcaster John Carmichael took on the not inconsiderable task of sourcing, reversioning to English and pitching the songs to individual directors. Each director was then given free rein to interpret their version of the story contained in the song, to pictures. The absence of dialogue meant that the casting brief was wide, and tantalising. Our sensational casting director Orla O’ Connor pulled out all the stops, in securing some of Scotland’s very finest actors across the strand.
